Norton Ghost Mft Error
It worked about a minute and reported that I needed to select a larger size. Is it still possible that the MFT is corrupt? According to the Defrag Analyzer in XP this is almost the whole 40GB. So I tried the boot floppy supplied by Symantec (no USB) to exclude me introducing anything incompatible, and still the same error when I try to access the NTFS volume. navigate here
Same when I selected 6285MB. Different application - most likely same old code migrated into the new product. Is there a utility that can do this (concentrating) with self validation? I could not find an option to create a hash for the whole volume.

In some cases you may be able to take an image using the GhostCast Server in conjunction with a Window PE boot disk. The big problem is that IfD will want to restore to a volume that is at least as big as where the last used sector lies on the physical HDD. All I can say is that over the past decade or so the TerabyteUnlimited utilities have not let me down I was really surprised here too!

CHKDSK /F fixed several errors.
- In some cases you may have to use MS-DOS instead.
- When I selected 6300MB it ran for several minutes, then reported Error 57 reading the filesystem and recommended running CHKDSK /F.
- If you are already using unicast, try multicast.
- This turned out to be due to a bad sector.

This is different than the defragmenter that comes with Windows operating systems. You could try restoring the image to a larger drive.
